After the sharp decline in the manufacturing industry in April, the slowdown bottomed out in May. The industrial confidence indicator (ICI) increased monthly by 8.9 pts to -29.9 pts, the figure 29.5 pts down from the respective last year one. The main survey balances, i.e. of production, orders and general economic situation grew. However, the lagged indicators: employment and financial situation of manufacturers dropped. Export production and orders diminished, and average costs of production declined. Negative consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic persist, industrial confidence is low, and manufacturers feel rather unconfident about their business prospects.
