Welcome to the website of the Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Economics.
The Department of Mathematical Economics (KEM) was established in 2002 from the previously existing Department of Mathematical Economics at the Institute of Econometrics. KEM currently employs several high-class specialists in the field of mathematics and broadly understood mathematical economics, including modeling economic phenomena and economic practice. The range of scientific interests of KEM employees includes both theoretical problems of economics and specific applications, ranges from microeconomic models to the modeling of macroeconomic processes and financial issues.
The role of quantitative methods, including mathematical economics, is constantly growing in economics. The position of these methods in the theory of economics is unquestionable, as evidenced, for example, by a large number of Nobel Prize winners who use and create quantitative models and methods. At the same time, quantitative models and methods are gaining wider and wider applications in economic practice. From insurance and banking to management and marketing. This process is very visible in qualifying tests for numerous economic institutions, which increasingly contain a fragment related to quantitative models and methods.
The mission of KEM is to develop broadly understood mathematical economics at the international level and to give students the opportunity to learn about the modern approach to this field and its applications, as well as to the mathematical knowledge needed for that. Knowledge of these fields of knowledge makes it very easy to take the first job, and provides the basis for further complementing knowledge and qualifications, which allows you to develop a professional career. For the best people there is the possibility of further scientific work.
In 2010, the Department was transformed into the Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Economics, while at the same time distinguishing the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Mathematical Economics.
High qualifications of KEM employees are expressed in the number of both domestic and foreign publications. The scientific work of people employed in KEM is published in the best scientific Polish periodicals and titles from the Philadelphia list. KEM employees also take part in the discussion on the current and future economic situation in Poland in the popular dailies and monthly magazines.
The head of the Department is prof. dr hab. Honorata Sosnowska.
